Zumba World record attempt Aug 2013

Hello everyone

Hope you are enjoying the Bank Holiday weekend here in the UK. I seriously hope you haven't made yourselves feel sick by overindulging on chocolate today!

Well I am very excited to talk about WoC's event later in the summer - this of course is the Guinness World record attempt for the World's largest Zumba class!

The current World Record is held by Dinaz Vervatwala.

Where: India

When: Sept 2012

Participants: 6671

War on Cancer is looking to host this event and aims to have a minimum of 7000 participants. The event will be open to all age groups, however entrants must be able to complete a full class. So if you are thinking of bringing along younger members of your family for instance, please know they will be able to complete the class, aren't likely to get bored 10 minutes into the class and wander off. Only those completing the whole class will count towards the Record attempt.

As you know 2013 is a very busy year for War on Cancer ( just like we like it ) and there are many things going on in the background that will be announced when possible. So I want to give a few indicators regarding the Zumba event. This event is very much in it's infancy right now, over the next few weeks more details will be finalized and announced.

So here we go - get your diary's out!

Saturday August 17th from 1pm at the Bradford Bulls Provident Stadium - Guinness World Record attempt for World's Largest Zumba Class!

You don't want to miss being part of some history making!

I am in the process of finalizing how/where you can pay and get your tickets for this event. I will make sure it is announced on all the social media sites War on Cancer is part of. If anyone could take a poster to their local gym, community centre, mum's toddler group, or your workplace that would be great. Contact me and I'll either email it or post it out to you. It is important to get the poster out far and wide, we want to put Bradford on the map as the location of a successful World Record attempt.

I will be contacting Guinness World Records in the coming weeks to register War on Cancer's record attempt. To find out the costs and book for a Record adjudicator to be on site the day of the attempt for instant clarification if successful or not. This in itself will bring great prestige and coverage to the event.

I will be approaching all local radio/TV and newspapers to get the coverage for this event. If you know anyone who works in any of the media's mentioned, contact me and give me their contact details so I can discuss it with them.

Any businesses wanting to sponsor this great event contact me, this will be mutually beneficial and I look forward to discussing any opportunities with you. Remember that having a premium package in place with Guinness World Records will bring great coverage on their website alone ( which is viewed over 12 million times a year ), War on Cancer will be able to use their logo both prior and after if successful with the record attempt, and any businesses involved through sponsorship will also be on War on Cancer's website ( the new one ) and will get coverage from it too. Media coverage on the day will also be great marketing for those sponsors involved.

The event I hope will be a great community endeavour , where we pull together to raise money, awareness for War on Cancer and people who are newly diagnosed, going through treatments and surviving breast cancer. I hope to see many men taking part in this very fun event, after all men suffer from breast cancer too. You don't have to be superfit to take part in this event....remember we are out to have fun as well!

One in three of us will develop some form of cancer in our lifetime in the UK, many of us either get diagnosed or know someone who has. This is a great event to come out and show your support for a friend, family member....a loved one. Come along and be part of a World Record attempt in Bradford.

Let's put our City of Bradford positively on the map, never were there a better time after the recent heroics from Bradford City, we can keep the community momentum going and extend that feel good factor that has lifted the spirits of our city recently.

I will also in the coming weeks be taking the steps required to register War on Cancer for full charity status, this is a two stage process. I will be looking to complete stage one in the coming weeks/ couple of months.

Then later in the year - stage two and full registration. This is indeed a great moment in the history of  War on Cancer and it's drive to make a difference.

Keep looking for more details, and hopefully very soon I can announce the launch of the new website. The web address will be www.waroncancer.co.uk

Until next time

Events updated with an overview for the coming year!

Hello everyone

I've updated the events page with an overview of the coming year. War on Cancer has a really busy year ahead, with lots for all of us to get stuck into. I really do hope to see some new faces on some of the endurance challenges. It's a great motivator to get out exercising for an event. The advantage for you and your  health is amazing and you'll find very quickly how much you enjoy challenging yourself. Now is a great time to be thinking of getting out there, you will feel fit and look great in time for the summer and all the summer clothes! So come along, sign up for something and get out knowing you are doing the same as like minded folks who want to make a difference for others as well as themselves.

Really looking forward to the year ahead, busy behind the scenes at War on Cancer, already looking at what is needed to be done for full charity status. That will happen this year I'm very pleased to say!

I'm going to give you some food facts about another superfood - Celery....get eating it, it really is a superfood!

Not many people would look at celery and think...superfood, but it is. Celery is an excellent source of Vitamin C, it contains potassium, calcium, manganes, molybdenum, phosphorous and iron, as well as the B Vitamins thiamine, niacin, folate and B6.

The phthalides in celery help it to enhance flavour and richness of other foods, even when their own tastes are overpowered. These compounds also help the arteries to dilate, in turn allowing blood to flow thus reducing blood pressure.

Celery has been shown to contain 8 families of anti-cancer compounds. Among them are the group Acetylenics that have been shown to stop the growth of tumour cells, and courmarins, the best known which is the anti-coagulant Warfarin, which helps free radicals from damaging cells and prevent the development of stomach and colon cancers.

Researchers have found that celery generates compounds that can fight Alzheimer's and other degenerative diseases. Celery is a great source of silicon, which is part of the molecular structure that gives bones their strength.

Celery is such a sweet succulent stalk that it has to produce it's own pesticides to protect it from hungry fungi.

Celery leaves contain the most potassium, calcium and Vitamin C, although the stalks are a healthful snack too. It is 95% water, very alkaline and filled with fiber.

Celery is considered a "smart carb" It contains no white sugar or chemicals, and has a high ratio of nutrition compared to its carbohydrate level.

So many positive things about celery, I have celery daily in my juice drinks and love the fact I can pack so many superfoods into my drink. One to certainly consider!

Until next time

More interesting juice de-tox facts!

Hello everyone

Well didn 't expect this to happen so quickly! I've not had any juice since Saturday, not because I've gone off it but because I just couldn't stand long enough to make some up with the pains I had in my back and legs. You wouldn't believe how bloated I am after only a couple of days off the juice! My fingers are really bloated...got the Professor Clump look going on today, my whole abdominal area is bloated too and I feel very uncomfortable. Not a great look or feel believe me!

I've really missed it and will test out my newly eased off back and legs by going to make some up shortly. It just proves that the juice totally balances the body, well it certainly is mine, when I'm on the juice I'm not retaining fluid, I'm not bloating, my energy levels are much improved, I feel so much better and love that I'm trying to counteract all the med's and antibiotics I've had to put into my system by massively boosting the vitamins, minerals and all the healthy nutrients going into my body. Just think of all the blood sugar balancing, blood pressure reducing, cholesterol lowering, anti-cancer and organ cleansing nutrients that I add to my system everyday....I don't go for a tablet to do it, I'm getting all that goodness from fresh produce. I genuinely cannot imagine not drinking this juice everyday, I really love it. I have only had caffeine about 5 times in the last 4 weeks or so, I'm heavily into Peppermint tea which is caffeine free and lovely hot or cold. Never thought I'd say I'm okay with not having a cuppa of Yorkshire tea!

Had some fabulous news on my own health front in the last few weeks ( down to two consultants now!! ) I have been signed off by my bladder consultant after two years! it looks like the last surgical procedure I had done in January has finally solved my bladder/infection issues. I cannot tell you how relieved I am about that, it was certainly getting me down a little after so long, and the almost continuous infections were taking a heavy toil on my poor battered body. So I'm off the antibiotics after just two weeks shy of a solid year of taking them, and now it's a matter of hoping the good bacteria in my gut and intestines recover and re-colonise themselves. I know some bacteria types will have been wiped out forever, but hopefully the others will improve. One of the main reasons I wanted to do the juice de-tox to begin with. My body/system is now resistant to some antibiotics after the overuse in the last year, so here's hoping I don't need them again.

The CT scan I had for the upper abdominal issues came back clear which is fantastic news on the liver, kidney and spleen front. My consultant now wants a gastro camera to check out my stomach etc to see if it's anything in there that's causing my problems. I have a date with the camera in April, so fingers crossed it's nothing in the stomach. It's leaning more towards something that either flares up, irritates me with some kind of inflammation or side effects from the long term antibiotic use...me?....I just want to be able to get on with things now, and am starting to. Back to the gym I go as soon as the soreness from my back/leg flare up eases off....couple of days I reckon!

Later this week I'm going to put up another great food fact, hope you come back to read it. So finally before I go, here's some details of thee upcoming Yorkshire 3 Peak challenge.

Major event announcements shortly

Hello everyone

Wow - busy times at War on Cancer in the background! This is going to be such an amazing year ahead....this is the year that I will apply for charity registration, I'm so happy and proud to be at this stage after just over a 18 months of War on Cancer existing, for those thinking it's a long time, I have been fighting my own battles to get myself back onto my own two feet literally in this time too.

I am so very proud of the work from everyone who has had any involvement, from those taking part in the endurance events, the people who support in anyway they can, to those who have donated gifts for the tombolas, the volunteers for all the events, especially the car washes etc, and most importantly the people who dig deep into their pockets and sponsor the events...without all of you my dream of making a difference to those diagnosed with breast cancer wouldn't be able to happen. So thank you very much!

As I have announced on Sat June 8th 2013....the annual endurance challenge will take place, this year, I set Ben Nevis as the sponsored challenge. There are a maximum of 40 places available. I would love for you to come along and join in, anyone who took part in the 2012 Yorkshire 3 Peak challenge will testify to what a great weekend it was. So come along, challenge yourself and be able to tell your friends and family that you've conquered GB's highest mountain in the name of charity. You'll also be able to make new friends and have fun reminiscing about the days successful climb over a few beers and a BBQ! Come join the WoC family!

Like I've said, 2013 is going to be a very exciting time for WoC, big plans and big announcements to be made. A very generous proposal from a wonderful company we worked with in 2012....with very many more collaborations to come in the coming years.

I will be announcing the annual garden party in the next few weeks - where yes the cocktail bar will be back in action! I'll be asking if folks can donate a couple of hours to help with a car wash or two over the summer/ autumn months. And later in the year....I want to organise an indoor climbing challenge....it will be a team event, so you can gather your team mates together for a day of hard earned fun while we climb the equivalent height of a chosen mountain between us!....now that's not something you do everyday is it? If I'm willing to have a go....surely you can? I have no upper strength having had a fair amount of chest muscle cut away when I had my surgery for breast cancer and know I will find this very tough, but I still want to be part of a team, don't you? what a great day it will be!

For friends overseas who want to be involved in something for War on Cancer - you can always organise something in your hometown on WoC's behalf....the remit is always to have people involved and to have fun in whatever is going on!

So this is the year I get to do my Mount.Kilimanjaro challenge, I am very excited for this to be happening, and when the new website is launched I hope you may be able to dig deep and sponsor me on this truly special climb. Remember it is the world's tallest free standing mountain and I look forward to the challenge on behalf of cancer awareness. I have decided I will probably do a short daily video diary on this climb which I will upload to the new website on my return.

That brings me to the direction of War on Cancer - as first announced, £5000 when raised will go to both Walk the Walk and Clic Sargent cancer charities. After that, I and WoC will be looking closer to  seeing where money is best used. Funds will be split between supporting research, local Hodu's/ hospices and looking into the wellbeing aspect for those having treatments. Our commitment is body, mind and spirit and we will be looking at the best ways to achieve this after speaking to the experts to get their input into all of this....approaches for grants towards projects etc will be taken into consideration and grants given to aid those others fundraising to bring about the eradication of cancer for future generations.....together we can achieve this. This won't happen in my generation, but I'm confident as we carry on driving forward to achieve this goal together it will happen.

So over the coming year, many great things are planned to happen, charity full status, great events that hopefully will be well received and become annual events, more funds to achieve my ultimate dream of becoming a grant giving charity....and most importantly....a charity that always involves people having fun while taking part in events. To look after body, mind and spirit.....to keep emphasizing the importance of healthy eating and exercise in our fight against cancer. And finally but certainly not least....to keep showing how we can live full, exciting and challenging lives while surviving cancer..nothing is impossible, has Audrey Hepburn said :- "Nothing is impossible, the word itself says I'm possible!"

So get out there, make a difference to someone's life, we can all make a little difference....Life is for living. Live life, no regrets!

Until next time
Tracy
