Events updated with an overview for the coming year!

Hello everyone

I've updated the events page with an overview of the coming year. War on Cancer has a really busy year ahead, with lots for all of us to get stuck into. I really do hope to see some new faces on some of the endurance challenges. It's a great motivator to get out exercising for an event. The advantage for you and your  health is amazing and you'll find very quickly how much you enjoy challenging yourself. Now is a great time to be thinking of getting out there, you will feel fit and look great in time for the summer and all the summer clothes! So come along, sign up for something and get out knowing you are doing the same as like minded folks who want to make a difference for others as well as themselves.

Really looking forward to the year ahead, busy behind the scenes at War on Cancer, already looking at what is needed to be done for full charity status. That will happen this year I'm very pleased to say!

I'm going to give you some food facts about another superfood - Celery....get eating it, it really is a superfood!

Not many people would look at celery and think...superfood, but it is. Celery is an excellent source of Vitamin C, it contains potassium, calcium, manganes, molybdenum, phosphorous and iron, as well as the B Vitamins thiamine, niacin, folate and B6.

The phthalides in celery help it to enhance flavour and richness of other foods, even when their own tastes are overpowered. These compounds also help the arteries to dilate, in turn allowing blood to flow thus reducing blood pressure.

Celery has been shown to contain 8 families of anti-cancer compounds. Among them are the group Acetylenics that have been shown to stop the growth of tumour cells, and courmarins, the best known which is the anti-coagulant Warfarin, which helps free radicals from damaging cells and prevent the development of stomach and colon cancers.

Researchers have found that celery generates compounds that can fight Alzheimer's and other degenerative diseases. Celery is a great source of silicon, which is part of the molecular structure that gives bones their strength.

Celery is such a sweet succulent stalk that it has to produce it's own pesticides to protect it from hungry fungi.

Celery leaves contain the most potassium, calcium and Vitamin C, although the stalks are a healthful snack too. It is 95% water, very alkaline and filled with fiber.

Celery is considered a "smart carb" It contains no white sugar or chemicals, and has a high ratio of nutrition compared to its carbohydrate level.

So many positive things about celery, I have celery daily in my juice drinks and love the fact I can pack so many superfoods into my drink. One to certainly consider!

Until next time
Tracy
